On Tuesday 8th March 2011, the opening ceremony of the thirteenth annual One World Festival was held in the Prague Crossroads and opened with awarding the Homo Homini Prize. This year’s laureate of the Homo Homini Prize is Azimžan Askarov, who has been defending human rights and the interests of those wrongfully accused for years. Askarov himself was sentenced to life in prison within the scope of a manipulated trial last year. The Homo Homini Prize was given to Azimžan Askarov’s son on his behalf.
The One World international festival of documentary films on human rights, held under the auspices of Václav Havel and organised by the company People in Need, is presently one of the largest human rights film festivals in the world and the Dagmar and Václav Havel VIZE 97 Foundation is traditionally its proud partner.
104 documentaries from more than forty countries around the world will be screened at the festival, both competing films and thematic categories. The films have been selected from more than 1600 films applied. For more information, visit www.oneworld.cz.
